Problem of the Day

Chapter 14, Lesson 5

Some cultures have used the number of fingers on one human hand when counting. Such a system, called a quinary system, is based on powers of 5 and contains only the five digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4. For example, in the quinary system, the number 432 means 4(5)2 + 3(5)1 + 2(5)0.

Write a polynomial expression to represent the sum 1032 + 421 in quinary numbers. Then evaluate the polynomial expression and convert the result to the decimal system.
