Problem of the Day

Chapter 7, Lesson 13

Martin is going to work in a store that sells appliances for the home. He is offered two possibilities for earnings: he may work for a straight salary of $25,000 a year plus a commission of 4.5% on all his sales, or work for commission only at a rate of 7.75%.

Write and solve an inequality that can be used to find the amount that Martin's yearly sales would have to be in order to have the second choice be more profitable. Round your answer to the nearest
ten-thousand dollars. (7-13)
