Problem of the Day

Chapter 5, Lesson 1

Bea and Jay are studying number theory. Today, they learned that:

The proper factors of a positive integer are all of its factors except for the integer itself. For example, the proper factors of 6 are 1, 2, and 3.

A perfect number is a number equal to the sum of its proper factors. For example: 6 is a perfect number because 1 + 2 + 3 = 6.

Bea said that 28 is a perfect number and Jay said that 24 is a perfect number. With whom do you agree or disagree? Explain.
