Chapter 3, Lesson 1
The Pentagon building in Washington, D.C. is among the largest office buildings in the world. Despite its 17.5 miles of corridors, it is said to take no more than 7 minutes to walk between any two points in the building. To access different floors of the building, there are stairways, elevators, and escalators.
The number of escalators exceeds the number of elevators by six, and the number of stairways is one more than ten times the number of elevators. The total number of stairways, elevators, and escalators is one hundred sixty-three.
Write and solve an equation to find the number of each kind of floor-access means in the Pentagon building.
